Record with Audacity - MAC When creating a recording for your department Response Group, you will need a computer microphone. This can be done with a Web Camera or by submitting a ticket to the IT Help Desk to borrow the USB microphone. In addition, the recordings should be completed using Audacity. If this application is not installed on your computer, access Self-Service and select the Audacity installation. Once installed, configure the software by following the steps below. Launch the Audacity application and set the recording parameters Audacity > Preferences… Devices Set the Recording > Channels: to 1 (Mono) Quality Default Sample Rate set to 44100 Hz Default Sample Format set to 16-bit OK to save changes Record and Export Click the red circle to begin recording. Click the black square to stop recording. The recording will appear in the window. Save the recording File > Export Audio… Save the recording to your Group Site or OneDrive file folders. Name the file Select WMA (version 2) Files (FFmpeg) Bit Rate: 48kbps Save OK Error with saving as WMA (version 2) Files (FFmpeg) You must add the FFmpeg file to the Libraries. Audacity > Preferences > Libraries Locate… Locate the ffmpeg_64bit_osx.pkg installer file on your MAC. Double click and run the installer. Browse for the file. Select the ffmpeg.55.64bit.dylib from the list OK to Save

If this application is not installed on your computer, please access Software Center on your Windows PC and install. Once installed, configure the software by following the steps below. Launch the Audacity application and set the recording parameters Edit > Preferences Quality Default Sample Rate set to 44100 Hz Default Sample Format set to 16-bit Click on OK to save. Effect > Amplify to set the volume level, the default decibel level should be sufficient. Recording should be set to Mono. Click the red circle to begin recording. File > Export Audio… Save the recording to your Group Site or OneDrive file folders. Choose the location to save the audio file and name it. Save as type should be WMA (version 2) Files (FFmpeg) Bit Rate should be 48kbps Click on Save. Error with saving as WMA (version 2) Files (FFmpeg) Install the ffmpeg-win-2.2.2.exe file and run. This will require administrative credentials. Locate the file avformat-55.dll in C:\Program Files (x86)\FFmpeg for Audacity\ffmpeg-win-2.2.2\avformat-55.dll
